Vijay or Joseph Vijay Chandrasekhar is an actor and Playback Singer in Tamil cinema. He is one of the highest-paid actors in Kollywood. He was born on 22 June 1974 (age 45 years as in 2019) in Madras, Tamil Nadu, India. Presently, he lived in Chennai. His nickname is Ilayathalapthy. His fans are crazy about his signature dance moves.
Mr. Ilayathalapthy has a big list of fan following in the UK, France, Japan, India, and China. He started his journey as a Child Actor in the drama Vetri in 1984. Therefore presently emerged as a Lead Actor of Kollywood. He has acted in more than 62 movies as a Lead Actor as well as also bagged numerous awards.

Education And Career
The childhood of Vijay (actor) spent in Chennai. He completed his schooling from Fathima Matriculation Higher Secondary School at Kodambakkam and Balalok Matriculation Higher Secondary School at Virugambakkam.
He has enrolled at the Loyola College to pursue a degree in Visual Communications. Because of his interest in acting, he dropped his college in between.
At the age of 10, he entered in Film Industry as a child actor in 1984 in the film Vetri. His movies as a child actor from 1984–1988 include Kudumbam, Vasantha Raagam, Sattam Oru Vilayaattu, Ithu Engal Neethi, Naan Sigappu Manithan, etc.
Intially working as a Child Actor in the movies directed by his father, Ilayathalapthy (his nickname) started working in lead roles at 18 years of age in 1992 from Naalaiya Theerpu.
In 1994, his movie Rasigan was released in which Vijay was credited with the name Ilaya Thalapathy which means a young commander. Movies in which he had lead roles are Deva, Rajavin Parvaiyile, Vishnu, Chandralekha, and Coimbatore Mappillai, etc.
He gave a series of hit movies and won Tamil Nadu State Film Award, Best Actor Award for Kadhalukku Mariyadhai and Thulladha Manamum Thullum. Actor Vijay has also starred in a movie with Priyanka Chopra in 2002. It was the debut of Priyanka Chopra before entered Bollywood. Ghilli, a Tamil movie of Vijay was the first movie of Tamil to cross 500 million in the box office. His movie Pokkiri was the first Tamil movie to run for 100 days in Kerala’s theatre.
One of his films Kaavalan (remake of the Malayalam movie, Bodyguard) was screened at the Shanghai International Film Festival In China. Vijay’s Nanban (3 idiots), he played the lead role of Rancho which was originally performed by Amir Khan in 3 idiots. He has received approximately 50 awards for his acting.

He was born in a Roman Catholic family. His father S.A Chandrasekhar is a film director. And mother Shobha is a Playback Singer. His sister’s name was Vidhya, who passed away at the age of 2 years. He was a very talkative and naughty boy but his sister’s death made him silent and shy.
Vijay tied a knot with his die-hard Hindu British SriLankan Tamil fan, Sangeetha Sornalingam on August 25, 1999. They blessed with two kids, a son and a daughter. His Son name is Jason Sanjay born in 2000 in London. His daughter’s name is Divya Shasha born in 2005 in Chennai.
Social Contribution
He runs a social welfare organization named Vijay Makkal Iyakkam (which means Vijay People Organization). This organization works for the people affected by Cyclone Thane. His organization launched “The Ilayathalapathy Vijay Education Awards” to promote education and honor the topped list students in 12th board exams.
In 2014, Vijay distributed rings of GOLD to newborn families at the Egmore Government General Hospital. He also helped a girl Fatima to get enrolled in a private college for further studies in Kodambakkam as she got good marks in 12th exams. He also distributed more than 70 lakh rupees relief materials to the flood-affected victims in Kerala in 2018.
